As if to celebrate her 60th birthday in July 2023, she defeated three young Chinese players to win at the WTT Feeder Havirov (Czech Republic). It was the first WTT title for 60 years old, Ni Xia Lian.

Ni Xia Lian was born and raised in Shanghai. She joined the Shanghai representative team at the age of 14 and joined the Chinese National team in 1979 when she was 16. She participated in the 1983 Tokyo World Championships which was her first World Championships and she got titles in the team and women's doubles. She said “When I joined the national team, I was a pimples-out fast-attack player. Coach, Zhou Lan Sun said to me, “Why don't you use long-pimples rubber?” to slow down my fast-paced style a little. Ge Xinai (China) became a World Champion using a pen holder racket with long-pimples rubber in 1979, but she was a defensive type who plays chop and block. Ni Xia Lian was the first offensive player to use a long-pimples.

Ni Xia Lian moved to Luxembourg in June 1990. She has won two European Championships and three consecutive victories at Europe Top 12s. She has competed in five Olympics, and she was 58 years old at the time of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. After the Olympics, she won a medal in women's doubles at the 2021 World Championships in Houston. Luxembourg was thrilled with the country’s first medal. Ni Xia Lian became the oldest medalist in history at 58 years old.
