[Jiang Jia Liang Story] A fast-attacking superstar who ran through the 1980s
Jiang Jia Liang, who led the world’s table tennis to “speed”

Jiang Jia Liang was born on March 3, 1964 inZhongshan city, Guangdong province, China.
Since his father was playing table tennis, he started to play table tennis at the age of seven.
Two years later he moved to the provincial capital, Guangzhou from Zhongshan city. "My family was poor and didn't have enough food. The burden on the family would be lighter without me."

He joined the Guangdong provincial national team at the age of 13 and he was selected as a member of the national team at the young age of 15. He came to Japan for the first time in October of that year for the Japan-China Exchange Table Tennis Tournament. This shows China’s highly expectations on him.

“Xu Shao Fa was my coach at the National Team, and it was a completely new coaching style for me. He taught me not only various techniques but also mental aspects such as how to play when you are nervous and what to do when you are not feeling well.” (from TSP Topics in 1988)
From the late 1950s, China used the same pen holder-rackets as Japan and created a style that was designed to "beat Japan." This was a fast-pitching attack to block Japan's forehand and it was a fastattacking tactic from a quick-motion service, like righthanded attacking and left-handed pushing.
In the 1970s, the European both handed driving style emerged. After Hungarian men’s team defeated China and won the world title in 1979, China immediately began to develop the different styles such as a shake hand using different rubbers on each side, changeable service and power attack, using anti-top spin rubber and a unique pen-holder driving style such as Guo Yue Hua. The traditional pimples-out fast pen holders style has become a fast attack style incorporating drive such as Jiang Jia Liang and Chen Long Can.

Jiang Jia Liang became the champion.

His first World Championships was Tokyo in 1983 at the age of 19, he was selected as a main member of the team event and finished third in the singles, winning the bronze medal. The World Championships in Gothenburg in 1985, Jiang Jia Liang won both the team and singles events putting him at the top of the world both in name and reality. "After Guo Yue Hua retired, I was trained as a China's ace and felt a lot of pressure, but I achieved 100%."
The singles final at the World Championships in New Delhi in 1987, between Jiang Jia Liang and Waldner (Sweden) can be said to be one of the most memorable matches in the history of the world table tennis. "I won 3-1 in the end, but each game was so close and I could have lost 1-3,'' said Jiang Jia Liang.

He was truly a superstar who ran brilliantly through the 1980s.
In his playing days, he used pimple-out rubber on fore side and on back side he kept the wood, but there are currently many players using pimples-in rubbers on the back side. He also uses a pimples-in rubber on the back side and show reverse backhand at the seminars. "I'm particular about how the ball holds and bites a ball when I hit both the pimplesout and pimples-in rubbers, so I wanted to create a racket that would satisfy that feeling. I also paid close attention to the sound.”
Jiang Jia Liang’s favorite navy was used as the accent color for the grip. VICTAS's Chinese-style original penholder had a slightly wide grip, which stabilized the surface during smashes, so he kept the grip shape. If you want to win a match with skillful plays on the table and consecutive fast attacks using pimples-out rubber, there would be no option not to use this racket. “The Legend'', a penholder quick attack has been revived in modern times with “Jian Jia Liang'' racket.
